April 2017 Update

Answer to Prayer

I keep a current list of God’s answers to my prayers. One of the latest answers was the recent 5 – 0 decision in the college’s favor by the Johnson Co. Zoning Board of Appeals. God granted this special victory on March 28th. This appears to be the final obstacle before we present to the state, the plans for the new dorm. The ruling saved the project thousands of dollars in curbing, parking lot islands, and mandatory trees and shrubbery. Thank you to the many that joined me in prayer.

Keep Learning

Heritage Baptist College is a short cut in a student’s training for the ministry. But even after Graduation, a preacher must continue to learn.

Lew Wallace, a native Hoosier, lived an exciting life. He served in the Mexican War, became a Major General in the Civil War, was appointed Governor of the New Mexico Territory, and served as minister to the Ottoman Empire. Yet Lew Wallace is best known for his writing and his novel: Ben Hur: A Tale of the Christ.

Wallace the adventurer and Wallace the writer knew the importance of continued learning. He penned these words at the close of his life: “A man can carry his mind with him as he carries his watch; but like the watch, to keep it going he must keep it wound up.” (Wallace, Lew. An Autobiography. New York: Harper Brothers. 1906. p. 934)

Graduation Week Events

On May 2, 2017 – May 4, 2017, we will hold our tenth Graduation Week for Heritage Baptist College. All the programs, except the golf scramble, will be held at the Hopewell Campus. We are excited to show you the recent improvements, and to have you participate in the events that will take place this week. The schedule of the 12 speakers from 6 different states can be found in the Spring Edition of the Heritage News. Please note the several changes this year, including the date of the Banquet. Here are the upcoming activities: Fish Fry, Golf Tournament, Banquet, Wednesday Night Rally & Commencement.

Graduation Week Fish Fry

Following the morning service on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, will be our Annual Fish Fry. Our hats also go off to Brother Harvey Shilling who catches and cleans the crappie fillets. Come and enjoy their labor of love!

Dr. Strachan pastors the thriving Calvary Baptist Church, where the Lord has blessed with many souls saved and a growing ministry. Dr. Harry Strachan will spiritually feed your heart and soul.

Raymond Barber to Preach Wednesday Evening

One of the week’s highlights will be the combined meeting of local churches on Wednesday, May 3, 2017. Dr. Raymond Barber, author, evangelist, and a minister of the Gospel for 65 years will be speaking that night. We will have special singing, and numbers of churches will be in attendance.

Dr. Raymond Barber is a friend to Christians and his messages are relevant and helpful. This is our eleventh year to host this combined service, and we look forward to a special evening filled with great enthusiasm, kindness, and Christian unity among the churches.
