Commencement Week 2025
Graduation week at Heritage has become a much anticipated occasion full of outstanding events. We are looking forward to a special time of blessing April 29 - May 1 (Tuesday - Thursday).
Everyone is invited to participate in the various activities: Spring Graduation Banquet, Wednesday Night Rally, Alumni Fish Fry, and the Commencement. The date of the banquet this year is Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. on the Hopewell Campus. There will be plenty of room with small groupings of tables. That evening Dr. Tom Wallace will bring a message that will encourage your heart. Special music will also be a part of the evening program.
The closing service will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium of the Hopewell Campus. Pastor James Brown of Beanblossom, IN will be the speaker that evening. He has faithfully ministered at the Beanblossom Baptist Church for over five decades. All are invited.
The President's Perspective
It as the evening of April 8th, one hundred and sixty years ago, as Major General Ulysses S. Grant sat soaking his feet in hot water, and using the old remedy of mustard plasters on his neck and wrists. He had been suffering the effects of a “sick headache”, and Grant felt miserable. The 44 year-old Union general had been chasing Southern General, Robert E. Lee and his army for the past week.
Grant’s northern army was cutting off the South’s escape routes, and it looked like there would be a terrible fight. The battle lines were forming.
Early on April 9th, General Grant awoke with his head still pounding, but he got on his horse and reported for duty. He headed straight out to get to the head of his army column. Grant did not know it yet, but April 9, 1865, would be a momentous day for him and for the rest of the country.
General Grant would later write in his Personal Memoirs, “When the officer reached me I was still suffering from the sick headache; but the instant that I saw the contents of the note I was cured.” (Vol. 2, p. 485)
At around 1:30 p.m., General Robert E. Lee met inside the McLean House at Appomattox Court House, and he surrendered his army. General Grant knew he was looking at the end of the Civil War, and his physical outlook changed.
I think of passages from God’s Word that remind us of the same change: As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country. (Proverbs 25:25) or A merry heart doeth good like a medicine,... (Proverbs 17:22a).
We live in a culture that is afflicted with poor mental health. The grim statistics are flashed through the news, especially concerning the younger generation. And yet the media forgets to offer the cure, which is found on the pages of the Bible.
The Gospel is “Good News”!

“Expect great things from God, Attempt great things for God.” - William Carey Pioneer Baptist Missionary to India
Meet Our Students
Solomon Cung (pronounced Chung) grew up in Hakha, Chin State in the country of Myanmar (Burma). Burma was the field of Adoniram Judson, the first Baptist missionary (1813-1850). Judson overcame many obstacles in missionary planting, and his efforts took root. Today, that country has over 3,000 Baptist churches.
Solomon had the privilege of being born into a minister’s family. His father pastored a Baptist Church and oversaw an orphanage in their country. Even though Solomon was exposed at an early age to the Gospel, he was not saved until he was in the 7th grade. That summer, his father held a Gospel crusade, at which time Solomon accepted Christ as his personal Savior. Almost immediately, Solomon made the decision to serve the Lord for the rest of his life.
Because of governmental persecution, Solomon arrived in the U.S. last year, to begin his training. He was introduced to Heritage and enrolled in the pastors program several months later.
As Brother Solomon states: “Being at Heritage is the great blessing for me!”
