Dr. Harry Strachan to Speak at Banquet
Every year, one of the special events of Graduation Week is the Alumni/Graduation Banquet. Dr. Harry Strachan, pastor of the thriving Calvary Baptist Church of Ashland, Ohio is scheduled to speak at the Tuesday night, April 30th event. President Dennis and Dr. Strachan have been friends since they were teenagers, when their Dads worked together in training preachers to reach Canada. Dr. Strachan was born in Ontario, Canada, but now has pastored in the U.S. most of his ministry. His wit and enthusiasm bring a delightful combination to this year’s program. Brother Strachan and his church are a blessing.
This year, we will again host the Alumni/Graduation Banquet on the Hopewell Campus, and the food will be catered by Gray Brother’s Cafeteria.
Come and enjoy Dr. Harry Strachan’s message, along with a night of good food, Christian music, and great fellowship. Please call Heritage Baptist College to make a reservation. (317) 738- 3791 or (317) 833-0172.

A great line up of 12 preachers is planned, and one of the week’s highlights will be the combined meeting of local churches on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. Dr. Tom Wallace, author, evangelist, and Vice President of the Sword of the Lord is scheduled to speak at the Wednesday night, May 1st event. Dr. Wallace has pastored three great churches, where the Lord blessed with many souls saved. Dr. Wallace will spiritually feed your heart and soul.
It is always a joy to have Dr. Wallace at Heritage. He is a friend to Christians and his messages are relevant and helpful. This is our seventeenth year to host this combined service, and we look forward to a special evening filled with great enthusiasm, kindness, and Christian fellowship among the churches.
Was St. Patrick a Roman Catholic?
On March 17, many of the major cities in America will erupt into festivities centered around an alleged Roman Catholic figure whose date of death (March 17, 461) is memorialized. Many legends are told about Patrick, but what are the real facts?
Patrick, after being abducted by Irish raiders, later returned to that island and preached the Gospel, founded churches, and sent out preachers to reach Ireland. What we honestly know of Patrick’s beliefs are found in his two authentic works: The Epistle to the Irish (Confessions of St. Patrick) & Epistle to Coroticus.
From these writings we can glean that Patrick believed in immersion upon a profession of faith, knew nothing of purgatory or Roman church government, and he viewed the Lord’s Supper as a Memorial. Patrick was definitely a man of the Book, for in his brief writings, he quotes 113 times from the Word of God (Old Latin Version). The definitive Christian work on Patrick is The Ancient British and Irish Churches by William Cathcart, which includes Patrick’s writings. Was Patrick a Baptist...read his writings, then you decide. Was he a Roman Catholic...Never!
Keeping up to Speed
Mel Trotter was a hopeless drunk, until God saved him. God later used him to open 67 rescue missions across the country, and he witnessed thousands of souls saved through his ministry. As God began to work in Brother Trotter’s life, the local preachers urged him to become ordained.
Mel Trotter told of this ordination in 1905 at Grand Rapids, MI. “My examination started with ‘Christian Evidences.’ I said, ‘What’s that?’ They said, ‘Are you saved?’ And I said, ‘You bet.’ They said, ‘How do you know?’ And I said. “I was there when it happened, in the Pacific Garden Mission, January 19th, 1897, ten minutes past nine, Central Time, Chicago, IL, USA.’”
“They all laughed, but that was the truth. Then they asked me what I knew about church history. I said, ‘You know more about that than I do.’ They said, ‘Are you Calvinist or Arminian?’ I said, ‘You can search me; my father was Irish!’ And in just seven minutes I had finished my theology course. It takes some ministers seven years, but there is a good advantage in being a ‘Trotter.’ It is faster!” Zarfas, Fred. Mel Trotter: A Biography.
